How DNS verification works

Overview

Before serving your site on a custom domain, Promino confirms you actually control that domain. It does this with a TXT record containing a unique token - a standard, safe way to prove ownership without changing how your domain currently resolves.

The verification token

When you add a domain, Promino generates a token that starts with prmn_. The token is tied to your site and is valid for 7 days. If it expires before you verify, simply add the domain again to get a new one.

The TXT record

You add one record at your DNS provider:

Type:  TXT
Name:  _promino-verify
Value: <your prmn_ token>

This record sits on a dedicated subdomain entry and does not affect your website, email, or any existing records.

What Promino checks

1. When you click Verify, Promino looks up the TXT record at _promino-verify on your domain.
2. It compares the value to the token it issued.
3. If they match, the domain is marked verified and connected to your site.

The dashboard polls automatically every 30 seconds while you wait, so once your DNS change propagates, verification completes on its own.

Timing

DNS changes usually take effect within minutes but can take up to 48 hours depending on your provider and previous record caching.
